Every year it b ecomes more apparent that Enterprise Information Systems are shifting from being "application-centric" to being "data-centric."&nb sp;The firms that have already made this shift are reducing the complexity and cost of their systems while dropping the cost of integration precipitou sly.
\nA data-centric enterprise is one in which most applicati on functionality is implemented on a single, simple, update-able, shared, f ederate-able data model. "Single" distinguishes this approac h from ERP and other monolithic-based solutions. "Simple" di stinguishes it from Enterprise Data Models. "Update-able" di stinguishes it from Data Warehouses and Data Lakes.
\nWhile the re is a huge benefit in adopting this approach, old habits die hard.&n bsp;In particular, the practitioner on this journey will find that there ar e two major changes from business as usual: modeling and architecting.  ;
\nTraditional data modeling paradigms do not lead to the sing le, simple, etc. model that is required at the heart of this meth od. The traditional "application-centric" approach has not p rovided us with architectures that can take advantage of this approach.&nbs p;This presentation will cover:
\n\n What is "application-centric" and how do so many firms remain stu ck at this stage of EIS development\n What are the requirements of the model at the core of a data-centric enterp rise\n Why existing web-stack architectures are not sufficient to implement d ata-centric applications, what needs to be added, and how\n\nWe wil l also cover case studies of several firms who have made this transition an d some that are on the journey, to report the kind of business-level and st rategic benefits they are enjoying. Attendees of this tutorial will:
\n\ n Understand what the application-centric approach looks like\n Recognize some of the key forces that keep firms stuck in the application-c entric quagmire\n Be able to document the economic advantages of adopting the data-centric ap proach\n Distinguish the characteristics of a data-centric model from previous attem pts at things that sound like this\n Have and understand a schematic of the key ingredients of a data-centric ar chitecture that would support these goals\n\n DTSTART:20191015T083000 SUMMARY:Data-Centric: Models and Architectures DTEND:20191015T114459 LOCATION: See Description END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
